Abinader highlights progress in the Dominican Port System

The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, highlighted the economic impulse and the growth of the families benefited with the construction and inauguration of more than 8 fishing docks and the opening of 3 tourist ports, 2 in Puerto Plata and one in Pedernales, supported by the Dominican Port Authority, under the administration of Jean Luis Rodríguez.

In his speech at the accountability ceremony, President Abinader said that “here we have present those who are already benefiting from the new tourism development of Pedernales, with the inauguration of the port of Cabo Rojo, the construction of hotels and other projects, testifying that Pedernales has changed”.

Likewise, the nation’s chief executive highlighted the growth and strengthening of the Dominican Port System during the last 3 years.

“Upon our arrival in government, we found 3 cruise ship docks operating. In 3 and a half years we have added Taíno Bay in Puerto Plata and the one in Pedernales. For this year we will finish the tourist pier in Barahona and the private sector will finish the one in Santa Barbara de Samana. And in the next few days we will give the first kick-off in a public-private alliance to build the one in Arroyo Barril, a tourist cruise pier and theme park”, affirmed the President.

National Fishing Docks Plan

Desarrollo Portuario RDThe head of state highlighted the inauguration of at least 8 tourist and fishing piers of the more than 14 that are in the pipeline and that are part of the “National Plan of Fishing Piers” developed by the Dominican Port Authority, under the guidelines of its head, Jean Luis Rodríguez.

“During the year 2023 we will inaugurate 8 tourist and fishing docks in the towns of Luperón Bay, Puerto Plata, Samaná, Boca de Yuma, Las Cañitas in Hato Mayor, Cabeza de Toro and Sánchez, in the province of Samaná, and Palenque in San Cristóbal”, he referred.

President Abinader highlighted the start of the project for the Puerto Rico – San Pedro de Macorís route for the transportation of passengers by ferry, which will have a daily route starting in November of this year and which will bring new horizons to the Sultana del Este, impacting tourism and the economy of the region.

On his side, the executive director of the Dominican Port Authority expressed that, as President Abinader said, the country is better than 4 years ago and, from Apordom, he feels proud and happy of the achievements of the change that today exhibits the port sector.
