Government will speed up works in ports of Barahona and Arroyo Barril

After concluding the first facet of the Port of Cabo Rojo, in Pedernales with the reception of the first cruise ship, the Government will now concentrate on the readjustment of the port of Arroyo Barril, in Samaná, into a terminal for tourist vessels, since the existing loading dock will be transformed into a modern infrastructure.

This was informed by the director of the Port Authority, Jean Luis Rodriguez, while explaining that the work to convert Arroyo Barril into a port for cruise ships will begin this year 2024 and is expected to be completed in 2025.

Rodriguez said that the government administration also expects to conclude this year the transformation of the port of Barahona, which will have a terminal to receive tourists through medium-sized cruise ships.

He also emphasized that the Dominican Republic will have eight ports to receive cruise ships, four of which can receive the largest and most modern vessels that can carry up to seven thousand travelers.
