Minister Vicente and IDB president discuss development issues and impact for the country

The Minister of Finance, Jochi Vicente, and the President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Ilan Goldfajn, met in Guatemala, within the framework of the 37th Meeting of the Governors of the Member Countries of the IDB Group of the Central American Isthmus and the Dominican Republic, to discuss initiatives that continue to generate an impact on the lives of the people.

Vicente explained that the IDB currently finances several projects of great social, economic and environmental impact. In addition, it has been one of the allies of the country’s growth and development over the last six decades.

Among the programs being carried out with the Bank’s cooperation are the Integrated and Sustainable Management of Solid Waste in Greater Santo Domingo, the Tourism and Urban Development of the Colonial City of Santo Domingo and the Support for the Strengthening of Social Protection.

The IDB Group also finances the modernization of energy infrastructure and efficiency, with the objective of increasing renewable sources, as well as improving the capacity and efficiency of the country’s electrical system.

“Since we took control of the country’s public finances, we have been very clear about the objective that every peso should go to improve the quality of life of the population through investment projects that promote development and modernity,” said the minister.

The IDB president emphasized that the Dominican Republic’s alliance with the IDB, in a concrete way, translates into support for key sectors for development. He also congratulated the country on the preparations for the 2024 Annual Meetings of the IDB and IDB Invest Boards of Governors, which will take place in Punta Cana from March 6 to 10.

During the event, economic and financial leaders from the IDB’s 48 member countries will discuss the challenges and opportunities for the development of Latin America and the Caribbean. Topics to be discussed include the IDB Group’s new Institutional Strategy, the proposed capital increase for IDB Invest and new financing for IDB Lab to evolve its business model.
