Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom), with the support of Vinci Airports, informed today the activation of its hurricane contingency plan in view of the possible passage through the Dominican Republic of tropical storm Franklin, which is expected to affect the national territory tomorrow, Tuesday, including Greater Santo Domingo.
In a press release, the entity highlighted that they are working together with the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC) and the Emergency Operations Center (COE), taking the necessary precautions and following international aeronautical safety protocols, in order to guarantee the safety of passengers, airport personnel and the terminals operated by this concessionaire company.
The concessionaire company said that the prevention measures against the natural phenomenon are carried out by continuously following the official bulletins issued by the National Meteorological Office (Onamet).
Additionally, they are in continuous communication with the airline station managers and the IDAC, who will determine if operations must be temporarily paused due to weather conditions.
Preventive measures
The company’s Communications Director, Luis Lopez Mena, detailed the preventive actions, among which are:
identification of vulnerable areas
anchoring of light aircraft
preventive maintenance
cleaning of filters, roofs and drains
lifting and removal of light debris
tree trimming
activation of Hurricane Command where all activities are coordinated during the storm’s passage.
