The Dominican Republic gained entry to 85 US airports through Global Entry, which will allow citizens of the Caribbean country to speed up entry procedures to the US territory.
The Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (Asonahores) emphasized that the agreement reached between both countries strengthens the relations and confidence of both nations in matters of migratory security and tourism.
This type of initiative is a sign of the stability and legal security that the Dominican Republic exhibits, and strengthens tourism ties between both nations, directly impacting frequent travelers by reducing waiting times, he said.
He also commented that the decision of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), positions the Dominican Republic as the sixth country in Latin America and the 16th in the world to be part of the Global Entry Program.
Global Entry will have a 5-year membership fee and requires periodic renewal. Tourists must be approved before undergoing a background check and an in-person interview prior to enrollment.
Among the benefits of the program are immigration screening without lines or paperwork, TSA PreCheck which eliminates the need to remove clothing at the security checkpoint and save time in paperwork, according to a Diario Libre publication.
