The diplomat affirmed that the EU has been a key, stable and reliable partner for the Dominican Republic for many years.

The ambassador of Spain, Antonio Pérez Hernández, affirmed that the European Union perceives the Dominican Republic as a pole of stability in the region and with an increasingly relevant role in the international arena.

The diplomat made the assertion during a cocktail party at his residence, for the beginning of the Spanish presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU), held by Spain from July 1 to December 31 of this year.

Perez Hernandez said that the Dominican political, social and economic firmness and the seriousness of its policies make the country a priority partner for the group of European nations.

“The EU has been a key, stable and reliable partner for the Dominican Republic over many years. This is a country with which we are united by deep historical, political, cultural and social ties,” said the Spanish ambassador.

The diplomat further explained that the European nations and the Dominican Republic share the principles and values that inspire their communities, based on freedom, democracy, respect for human rights and international integration and cooperation.

Perez Hernandez highlighted the coincidence of the nations on the major issues of international and national policies.

He reiterated the commitment of the European Union and Spain as president, to give a boost to the relations of that organization with the countries of Latin America and the Dominican Republic.
