The director of the National Health Service (SNS), Mario Lama, informed that the Emergency Departments of the hospitals that make up the Public Health Network were reinforced with medical personnel, medicines and extra beds to attend to the eventualities that usually occur during the Christmas Eve and Christmas holidays.
Dr. Lama instructed the directors of the nine Regional Health Offices to supervise the logistics related to the reinforcement of personnel in vital areas in charge of emergency situations, intensive care, surgery and maternity, maintenance of electric plants and fuel supply.
He explained that these contingency measures are taken due to the increase of traffic accidents, alcohol intoxications, cardiovascular or brain events, gastrointestinal disturbances and burns, among others that unfortunately usually occur due to the excesses in the festivities of this season.
Likewise, the Emergency and Disaster Committees of the SNS were activated in all the hospitals of the Public Network and hospital security was strengthened.
Mario Lama recalled that he recently delivered to the Francisco Moscoso Puello and Traumatológico Darío Contreras hospitals equipment which represented an investment of DR 36,750,162.2, with the purpose of guaranteeing the quality of the services they offer to their users, especially during this Christmas season.
Finally, the head of the SNS called on the public to celebrate with prudence and to respect the measures established by the emergency agencies in order to avoid unfortunate situations that could harm their health.
The National Health Service is one of the institutions working in coordination with the 9-1-1 System and the Emergency Operations Center (COE), in the operation “Conscience for Life, Christmas and New Year 2023-2024”, in order to safeguard lives during the festivities of the season.
