First hotel of Grupo Piñero in DR to be transformed into police training school

President Luis Abinader inaugurated the new Police Training Center in San Juan, which will serve for the training and education of some 3,000 new members of the institution, as part of the work program established to carry out the Police Reform.

The novelty of the center is that it is located in the first hotel of Grupo Piñero in the Dominican Republic, the Bahia Principe Grand San Juan, which has been remodeled by the group to make way for the Gaspar Hernandez Police Training School.

In this regard, the CEO of Grupo Piñero, Encarna Piñero, expressed that she is proud to be part of the opening of the Gaspar Hernandez Police Training Academy Campus, which will serve for the training of agents who will take care of security in the streets.

He highlighted the Government’s interest in converting the Gran Bahia Principe Rio San Juan space for the training of future National Police officers.

He explained that the hotel, inaugurated on July 23, 1995, represented an important milestone for Grupo Piñero, as it was its first hotel investment outside Spain.

“This was my father’s first hotel at the international level, Bahia Principe Grand San Juan, so in some way it has an emotional content that we are making available with facilities that in some way are going to contribute to this police reform project,” he said.

Piñero recognized the importance of security in tourism and pointed out that this aspect is one of the most critical factors for tourists visiting the country and other parts of the world.

He also clarified that his relationship with the Dominican State is based on a rental contract and that the National Police will assume responsibility for the maintenance and operation of the establishment, according to Nuevo Diario.

At the inauguration ceremony, the president of the Piñero Group, Isabel García Lorca, handed over the key of the complex which will be used for the training of the agents.

About the Center

Abinader said that the training program that will be implemented in the modern center for the new police officers is designed to acquire competencies with the purpose of developing in them the necessary skills and abilities that they must demonstrate before the citizens.

“Today we confirm that we are renewing in an integral way the members of our National Police, and we do it with the opening of this center, spacious, comfortable and adjusted to the needs of the institution to train and train its members in an ideal way”, said the President.

The President affirmed that the opening of the center is a step forward in the restructuring of the police educational system, through the vision and work of the technical commission for the police reform in terms of building a new and complete training model in 6 years.

The event was attended by the Minister of the Presidency, Joel Santos; the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Franklin García Fermín; the general administrator of Banco de Reservas, Samuel Pereyra, and the general director of the National Police, Major General Eduardo Alberto Then.

Also, the president of the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), vice-admiral José Manuel Cabrera Ulloa; the commissioner for Police Reform, José Pepe Vila del Castillo; the rector of the Police Institute of Higher Education (IPES), general Juan Guzmán Badía; the governor of the Espaillat province, Juana Rosario Márquez de Candelier, and the coordinator of the Commission for the Transformation and Professionalization of the National Police, Servio Tulio Castaños Guzmán.
