Cap Cana: IRONMAN 70.3 with athletes from around the world

Cap Cana reminded the public that next Sunday, April 28, the IRONMAN 70.3 competition will be held for the first time in the country, with more than a thousand national and international athletes.

In this regard, both inside and outside the destination, some access roads will be blocked for the cycling race that is part of the triathlon.

Ironman 703In conjunction with all the competent authorities Intrant, Ministry of Public Works and Communications, National Police, DR Víal, DIGESSETT, POLITUR and COMIPOL, the Coral Highway and the avenue that leads directly to the destination city in a West-East direction, from the entrance of Higüey to the entrance of Cap Cana on the south roadway, will be blocked. The blockade will be from 3:00 a.m. next Sunday until 1:00 p.m. of the same day.

The executive president of Cap Cana, Jorge Subero Medina said he felt very grateful with the welcome of the country and the authorities for the development of this important world marathon to be held for the first time in the Dominican Republic, as it is a starting point to continue attracting different forms of sports tourism, combined with wellness and diversification tourism.

3000 visitors in one weekend

“It is an honor for us to receive on this occasion more than a thousand athletes who will visit us with their families and coaches which will translate into more than 3 thousand visitors in just one weekend. These athletes will swim, run and cycle in and out of our destination, appreciating the wonders of the nature that surrounds us, and contributing to our economy through their stays, travel, consumption, among others. This is what we aspire to, that our country continues to grow in tourism from its different ways and in turn injects all other productive areas,” he concluded.

Athletes will begin their IRONMAN 70.3 challenge by swimming 1.9 km (1.2 miles) along the private coastline and beach of Cap Cana. Once out of the water, athletes will head to the transition area (200 meters from the swim course start) and embark on a one-lap bike ride of a distance of 90 km (56 miles) through the streets and beautiful gardens of Cap Cana to the national highway.

The 21.1 km (13.1 miles) run course will traverse the resort community of Cap Cana, a flat course that will take athletes to the renowned Cap Cana Marina, where they will be surrounded by a magnificent coastal setting. The finish line will be located at Juanillo Beach, near the Margaritaville Hotel.
