urism of the DR launches the National Sports Tourism Strategy at FITUR

The Ministry of Tourism of the DR presented at FITUR the National Sports Tourism Strategy and the creation of the Public-Private Commission for Sports Tourism. It also announced the creation of the Dominican House for the Paris 2024 Games, together with the Creando Sueños Olímpicos (CRESO) organization.

The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, has pointed out that tourism in the DR is more than sun and beach, and within that diversity, MITUR has identified sports tourism as a strategic axis to grow the number of visitors and international visibility of the DR.

Collado indicated that the Commission is formed by Felipe Vicini, president of CRESO, Luis Mejía, member of the International Olympic Committee, José Monegro, president of the Santo Domingo 2026 Organizing Committee and David Llibre, president of the DR Hotels and Tourism Association.

The Commission explained that this is the first time that the country will have a Dominican House during the Olympic Games, which will serve as the epicenter of the national delegation, as well as a space to present the Country Brand to visitors and celebrate any triumph or medal won by Dominican athletes during the Olympic Games.

“The Sports Tourism Commission will have the objective of identifying the best opportunities for sporting events that can attract tourists to the country, as well as international events in which the DR should participate, in order to strengthen the Country Brand with our athletes, who are our best ambassadors” said the Minister of Tourism during the ceremony.

For his part, Felipe Vicini indicated that “this is a great initiative of MITUR, because through sports, we can improve our country and with a strong sports tourism strategy to turn the DR into the capital of sporting events in the Caribbean, which in addition to bringing numerous visitors, also has a positive impact on the development of our athletes”.

Luis Mejía, who is also the president of Centro Caribe Sports, and José Monegro both appreciated the initiative, which they considered fundamental in order to continue creating a successful Central American and Caribbean Games for Santo Domingo 2026.

Olympic champions Felix Sanchez and Adeury Corniel were present at the presentation of what will be the Dominican House in Paris 2024, receiving a great welcome from all visitors.
