President Luis Abinader and the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, announced that “from now on the countdown begins” for the country to receive 10 million visitors by the end of the year, after highlighting the growth registered by the sector with the arrival of 619,204 people in the month of October.
In the now traditional press conference, where the results of the monthly arrival of tourists are offered, Minister Collado, together with President Abinader, informed that during the first ten months of this year, 8,245,190 visitors arrived in the country.
“Those 8,245,190 visitors we received from January to October this year, represents a growth of 33 percent compared to the same period of 2019, 112 percent compared to 2021 and 23 percent compared to 2022. “We did it again,” said Minister Collado in releasing the sector’s statistics.
He also said that in October alone the country received 531, 017 foreigners, being the first time that Quisqueya has received more than 500,000 tourists in this tenth month of the year, which represents 8 percent more than in the same month of 2022.
This growth was also registered by sea, since 88,187 cruise passengers visited the country in October alone, bringing the total to 1,690,598 in the first ten months of this year.
President Abinader, present at the event, highlighted the remarkable growth that the tourism sector is registering every time and said that the countdown has already begun for the country to receive the figure of ten million tourists.
He said that the tourism industry has a direct impact on the wellbeing of the people and on the economy, since “this does not only mean tourists, it means development, employment, dynamization”, he pointed out.
The President congratulated Minister Collado and his team for the great work they have done to achieve the sustained growth of tourism, which already serves as a reference for other countries.
The activity also included the presentation of the new advertising campaign that will be promoted in the United States during the winter, which is when the high season begins in the country.
