Collado: “We are committed, together with the private sector, to promote sustainable tourism”

The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, assured that the country is committed to becoming the leading destination for sustainable tourism in the region, after surpassing the goal of 10 million visitors.

He explained that he reached a transcendental agreement with the Association of Hotels and Tourism (Asonahores), marking a milestone in the search for a more sustainable and environmentally friendly tourism.

He assured that together with the private sector “we will promote environmentally friendly tourism with a vision of sustainable tourism”.

He indicated that thanks to the joint effort, concrete actions will be taken gradually to reduce, for example, the use of plastics in hotels and tourist establishments, among other measures.

Ciollado said that within the sustainability agreement, all segments such as gastronomy, ecotourism, sports tourism, adventure, among others, will be promoted in accordance with environmentally friendly measures and natural resources in hotels, beaches and other areas frequented by tourists.

In addition to focusing on sustainability, the minister highlighted the continued growth of tourism in the country, promoting its attractions and expressing confidence that this diversification will contribute to maintaining the interest and attractiveness of the destination.

He maintained that after the achievement of the country’s recovery and leadership with the arrival of more than 10 million visitors, there is the decision to place the Dominican Republic as a leader and benchmark of sustainability throughout the region.

“We have, from now on, to better organize tourism in the long term,” said Collado after expressing satisfaction at starting the year with more than one million visitors and projecting 2.3 million arrivals in the first quarter.

Minister Collado made the statements prior to his participation in the event Mercado Change The World Summit 2024, which took place at the Intercontinental Real Santo Domingo hotel.
