Confotur: approval of tourism projects to be expedited

The Projects Department of the Ministry of Tourism (DPP), headed by architect Chanel Peña, has approved 542 land use non-objection files in 2023; and the Tourism Development Council (Confotur) 61 tourism projects.

The maximum approval time for files submitted to the DPP was 60 days, but 22% of land use permits were approved in less than 30 days and 42% in a period of 30 to 45 days. These files are submitted and responded to digitally. They correspond to 17 provinces of which only La Vega and Santiago are not coastal territories.

This number of files exceeds the 413 files processed in 2022 and 311 in 2019, the two previous highest figures. The files in process for the month of December 2023 are still missing.

Confotur’s approvals for tourism projects correspond to Montecristi, Puerto Plata, Santiago, Samaná, Distrito Nacional, San Pedro de Macorís, El Seibo, La Romana and La Altagracia. They will generate 72,640 jobs.

Peña gave this information during the ceremony headed by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, where it was announced that 9.1 million visitors arrived in the country by air and sea during the period January-November of this year, according to Resumen Turismo.
