The ambassador of the Dominican Republic in Brazil, Patricia Villegas de Jorge, signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Tourism of the DR (Mitur) and the Federative Republic of Brazil.
The objective of this document is to promote the development of cooperation in tourism between the two countries, both at the institutional and private levels, through the exchange of information, training and promotion of tourism investments.
The expectation is that the action will contribute to the increase of the flow of tourists between Brazil and the Dominican Republic, thus encouraging the cultural exchange between these nations and the search for a harmonized positioning in international forums, according to a press release.
During the visit made on December 12, 2023, to São Paulo, Brazil, by the Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, David Collado, he took the opportunity to sign the agreement with his Brazilian counterpart, Celso Sabino de Oliveira, and expressed his commitment to strengthen bilateral ties with the giant of the South.
In this sense, Ambassador Patricia Villegas de Jorge, expressed her recognition and gratitude to the Brazilian authorities on behalf of the president, Luis Abinader, highlighting that a historical event between the two countries is beginning, according to El Nuevo Diario.
“Our government has a very broad vision of what tourism is, and now with Minister Celso Sabino, who shares this vision, of how to project the country, I believe that the alliance will be very productive for both nations,” he said.
Based on information from the Tourism Data Panel, in 2023, Brazil received 8,665 tourists from the Dominican Republic, while more than 18,000 Brazilian tourists visited the Caribbean country in the same year, especially in Punta Cana, famous for its beaches.
