FIFA Women’s World Cup will increase tourism in Santiago

During the launching of the Santiago Tourist Bureau initiatives and the Visit Santiago promotional platform, in a ceremony held at the Centro León, President Luis Abinader announced that the province will host the FIFA Women’s World Cup in the third quarter of this year, while indicating that by 2026 the Central American Games will be held in Santiago.

Other initiatives announced by the president are: the creation of the Don Alejandro Grullón Museum, on the city of Santiago, in the facilities of Inposdom, sponsored by Banco Popular, he also recalled the removal of the Mercedes Hotel, which will become a cultural center of Banreservas.

President Abinader spoke of Santiago’s institutional strength as the basis for driving the tourism development strategy. “The new tourism is to tell success stories. There is a lot of wealth to draw from,” said the president about the development of industries and their history, such as tobacco, rum, health, among other long-standing successful businesses that the Heart City has. “Our vision for the future is a great metropolitan area, Santiago-Puerto Plata, with the Amber Road”.

The engineer Manuel Estella, founding partner of Visit Santiago, as well as Ramón Paulino, president of the Santiago Tourism Cluster, highlighted the support of the Fifa FemeninoDominican Government and the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), so that the Heart City advances and stands out as a tourist destination.

Present at the event were the vice-president, Raquel Peña; the first lady, Raquel Arbaje; the ministers of the Presidency, Joel Santos; of Tourism, David Collado; Melany Rodríguez, president of Visit Santiago; Fernando Capellán, among other executives.
