UNWTO recognizes DR growing above world average

Pololikashvili said that the Dominican Republic has become a world tourism reference.

The secretary general of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Zurab Pololikashvili, revealed that the Dominican Republic is above the world average for its rapid recovery in the tourism industry.

Speaking to journalists covering the 118th meeting of the UNWTO executive committee, which is being held in the country, Pololikashvili highlighted the leadership that the Dominican Republic has earned for its success story in tourism.

He said that the Dominican Republic has become a reference in tourism worldwide.

“We congratulate Minister David Collado and his team for the great work he has done and the success of this executive council meeting,” said the UNWTO secretary general.

Gustavo Santos, director of the UNWTO for the Americas, affirmed that it is no coincidence that the country is hosting the UNWTO meeting.

He expressed that the Dominican Republic has earned a leadership role in the world tourism industry.

“In its policy and leadership, the Dominican Republic is above average in the recovery of tourism worldwide,” emphasized the director of the UNWTO for the Americas.

He indicated that this is one of the reasons why we are here, “reflecting on the new trend in tourism.”
