According to the WTTC report, last year the sector generated 802.6 thousand jobs, that is, 16.8% of the total number of jobs in the country.
The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) noted, through its Annual Economic Impact Report (EIR), that by the end of this year the sector’s contribution to the Dominican Republic’s GDP will reach pre-pandemic levels, as it will contribute more than US$17.7 billion to the national economy, that is, almost 10 percent above what was registered in 2019.
Likewise, by the end of 2023, the national tourism sector is projected to reach 850,900 jobs, and this would surpass the 2019 figure by 6.3 percent. In this way, jobs in the sector will represent more than 17% of the total number of jobs at the national level.
According to the same report, it is estimated that by the end of 2023, the Dominican Republic’s tourism sector will represent 15.3% of its total economy.
In 2022, the GDP contribution of the Dominican Republic’s Travel & Tourism sector grew by 26% compared to the previous year, to total more than US$16.7 billion, which represented 15% of the Dominican economy, surpassing by 3.8% the figures reported in 2019.
Last year, the sector generated 802.6 thousand jobs, or 16.8% of total jobs in the country; 0.3% above 2019 levels.
During the past year, the arrival of foreign travelers increased and generated an inflow of nine billion dollars, a growth of 34% compared to the previous year.
