Last weekend of the XI International Theater Festival 2023

Four plays will captivate family audiences this last weekend of the XI International Theater Festival FITE DR 2023, both in Santiago de los Caballeros and Santo Domingo.

On Friday 27 and Saturday 28, at 8:00 p.m., the Colombian collective Matacandelas will stage “Snow White. El embrujo de la manzana” (Snow White. The apple’s enchantment) at the Restoration Hall of the Gran Teatro del Cibao.

Prior to their presentation, Matacandelas, the festival’s special guest company, will receive recognition from the Ministry of Culture and the event’s organizing committee.

On Saturday 28 and Sunday 29, the company Jabrú, Teatro de Títeres, also from Colombia, will offer the play “Clownti”, which is about a boy who feels very lonely and a little sad and decides to open the suitcase of his dreams. His surprise is great when he realizes that there are all the beautiful things his father used to wear to become the best clown in the circus.

“Clownti” will be presented at the Manuel Rueda Hall of the Plaza del Conservatorio, in Santo Domingo, at 6:00 p.m.

Similarly, “Ajonjolí”, a children’s production by Teatro PiedePuente, will be staged on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29, at 5:30 p.m., at the Otto Coro Hall of the Guloya Theater, in the capital city.

In this play, Ajonjolí and his family live in a large house far from the city. Camila, his sister, is a very naughty girl who at times accuses him unjustly before his parents and, when this happens, he takes refuge in the basement, where he entertains himself by fantasizing about the objects that others have forgotten.

And to close, on Sunday 29, the family will have the opportunity to see “El hijo del sol: historia de un principito”, by Teatro Rodante Dominicano, at 8:00 p.m., in the Restoration Hall of the Gran Teatro del Cibao.

Conceived as a new opportunity to transmit training in social and moral values, this version of the classic by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry presents an adolescent prince who faces the conflicts and confusions of that stage of life. He travels through different planets, fights for children’s rights, justice and love.

A second performance of this play will be offered the following day, Monday, October 30, at 8:00 p.m., which will serve as the formal closing of this great cultural event, after the closing ceremony of FITE DR 2023, which will take place in the same Restauración hall one hour earlier.
