Dominican Embassy and Ministry of Agriculture of Brazil achieve release of meat products

Beef and pork can now be exported to the Dominican Republic.

The Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Brazil, together with the Ministry of Agriculture of the South American country and its counterpart in the Dominican Republic, within the framework of a rigorous process that included the review of certificates and on-site audits, formalized the opening of two more markets for the commercialization of Brazilian animal protein. Beef and pork can now be exported to the Dominican Republic.

For the South American country, the Dominican Republic is the second largest economy in Central America and the Caribbean, the nation presents itself as a promising destination for Brazilian meat. The market is around 120,000 tons of annual imports.

According to a press document, this is one of the largest market openings for Brazilian pork in the last decade. An important commercial relationship for Brazil because it generates more opportunities for our agricultural workers, agribusiness and commerce in the producing municipalities. It is a virtuous circle and that is why President Lula and the Ministry of Agriculture have been working hard to strengthen international relations”, explained the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro.

In March, the minister met with the Dominican Republic’s ambassador to Brazil, H.E. Patrícia Villegas de Jorge, to discuss the issue and, since then, negotiations have advanced until the conclusion of the market opening process this week.

With the opening of the pork and beef markets to the country, at least seven Brazilian establishments are already authorized to export the products and others are still under analysis.

In total, since the beginning of 2023, Brazilian agricultural products, with an export diversification agenda, have already conquered the opening of 29 markets in the Americas, Asia, Africa and Oceania.

This and other efforts made by the diplomatic mission in partnership with that ministry, is part of the vision of the government plan of the President of the Dominican Republic H.E. Luis Abinader, who carries as his main banner to ensure food security in the Dominican Republic, with the aim of improving the living standards of the population.
