About 120 kilometers northeast of the city of Puerto Plata, between Río San Juan and Cabrera, this vast two-kilometer golden sand beach is known for its swells – good for surfers – and undertows in winter, which require special attention and not to swim too far. On site, rows of shacks offering local seafood serve excellent plates at lunchtime, while music blares. Playa Grande’s perfect palm trees and golden beach landscape make it a photographer’s favorite.
