DR meets close to 100% of energy demand

On Monday night, a double record was registered in the country’s electricity generation, surpassing 3,550 megawatts (MW) of sustained demand and instantly covering 12.7% with renewable sources.

The executive director of the National Energy Commission (CNE), Edward Veras, indicated that this demand is due to the consumption capacity of the population, experiencing a high economic growth above other Latin American countries.

He emphasized as other factors the measure taken by President Luis Abinader, to eliminate programmed or financial blackouts, as well as his support for renewable energy projects that contribute a large amount of megawatts daily.

The official also highlighted the role of energy planning carried out by the CNE: “it is the fundamental axis to achieve, as yesterday, the total supply of demand, minimize generation costs and guarantee the massive integration of renewable and/or more environmentally friendly sources”.
