President Luis Abinader announced that the construction of the Santo Domingo Convention Center, which has already completed its design phase, will be put out to bid.
“It is something we have lacked for a long time, and yet we have not developed. We are opening this year three large hotels of well-known international brands, but that convention center is the complement that we hope to finish by the end of 2025,” he projected.
While participating in the monthly press conference of the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), which gave the results of visitor arrivals as of December 2023, the president highlighted the progress made by the government in terms of tourism infrastructure.
In this regard, he highlighted the expansion works in the Colonial City, to increase thematic attractions, open more museums and thus increase the flow of tourists in this key destination for the city of Santo Domingo, according to Diario Libre.
“The evolution of Dominican tourism in terms of resilience, infrastructure and security, places the sector “at the best moment” to attract foreign investment, said the president.
He explained that despite the fact that the hotels, bars and restaurants sector was one of the most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, its operability kept foreign investors in the country.
“Today, still, is the best time to invest. We are on a growth path, we have greater recognition from the entire international community and we have greater control over many elements, including security,” he said.
