President Luis Abinader affirmed that no contract has given so many benefits to the State as those that the renegotiation currently being carried out with Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom), which is expected to provide the State with contributions that will exceed US$ 2 billion.
He urged to compare previous agreements, not only those that the country has signed, but also those of the region and check the benefits that the current contract will leave, in relation to the two previous addenda.
“You have to compare this contract with the contracts of the whole region, it would be good to compare it. What should be asked is why this contract now, which is going to provide more than US$ 2,000 million between investment and contributions to the Government, and why before it was nothing”, explained the President.
The President said that the only thing that was done with the previous contract were the investments in the airport facilities, which he said should be audited now, because they were minimal.
“Then we would have to see the negotiating capacity of each government,” he said.
Abinader acknowledged that for the first time officials are coming before the full Congress to report on the actions executed by the government which, in his opinion, is a sign of the strengthening of democracy, according to El Nacional.
“This is democracy, and this is the way it has to be and here no one has to get cute because they are asked for explanations about the Government’s actions. We have the obligation to answer for those actions”, he said.
