DR already has more than 7 million visitors

The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, affirmed this Tuesday that for the first time the country surpasses the figure of 7 million visitors in only 8 months, registering in August alone, also, the arrival of 784,284 by air and cruise ships.

“Surpassing the barrier of 7 million visitors in just eight months is a true record. In the Dominican Republic we should feel proud, because we did it again,” said Minister Collado when he offered the statistics of the behavior of the tourism sector in the month of August in an event held at a hotel in the capital.

He informed that of the 784,284 visitors last month, 665,082 came by air and 119,202 arrived by sea.

Likewise, he indicated that in the first 8 months of this year 5,544,778 tourists and 1,535,213 excursionists, reaching a record of visits in that period in relation to previous years.

“We are talking that in 8 months we received 7,079,991 visitors, 31 percent more than in 2019, 136 percent more than in 2021 and 25 percent above last year. If this is not a record, you name it,” said Collado.

The official highlighted the sustained increase in the arrival of cruise passengers, noting that in the January-August period, 1,535,213 visited the country, while last month 119,202 tourists arrived.

He also affirmed that the general hotel occupancy in August exceeded 70%, in spite of being in what is called low season.

Minister Collado considered that the Dominican tourism sector is in a moment of splendor and reiterated that by the end of the year the desired goal of 10 million visitors will be reached.
