The Dominican Association of Marinas and Yacht Clubs presented the first board of directors of the entity with the objective of promoting the national nautical-sports and recreational tourism industry.
In that sense, Juan Bancalari, president of the entity, said that this association aims to promote a new chapter of the country’s tourism sector with a highly profitable activity to strengthen the complementary offer of the industry.
“The investment in infrastructure, marinas and their real estate offer today exceeds 1,000,000 million dollars, and represents a significant contribution to the economy and tourism promotion for the country,” he said.
He pointed out that the Sport Marinas and Nautical Clubs generate more than 2,500 direct employments between boat captains, marina and personnel of the port.
In addition, he highlighted the support provided by the Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic, (Asonahores), who have worked together to promote this new institution for the benefit of the development of nautical tourism in the country.
He emphasized that among the benefits generated by this type of tourism are the rental of aquatic equipment, sailing schools, food and beverage services, lodging, vehicle rental and land excursions.
He explained that currently the association has the main sports marinas in the country Marina Casa de Campo, Marina Cap Cana, Puerto Bahia, Ocean World, Marina Punta Cana, Punta Arena and DockSyde Marina, as well as the yacht clubs of Santo Domingo, a pioneer institution in nautical activities in the country and the Monte Cristi yacht club.
He stressed that it is in an initial stage that needs the joint effort of all public and private actors to promote its potential and that visitors and users can enjoy the main attractions of the Dominican Republic.
