The main tourism fair in the RD kicks off this Wednesday with its focus on the country’s tourism sustainability, according to Aguie Lendor, executive vice-president of Asonahores.
Lendor explained that the new edition of the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE) will focus on sustainability and the Caribbean nation’s commitment to preserve its attractions, promoting a more environmentally friendly sector.
For this reason, in the 2024 edition of the fair, agreements will be signed with institutions, as a manifestation of the interest of the public and private sector to take care of the attractions offered by the RD to tourists.
“An agreement on sustainability and the milestones that we must achieve in terms of reducing single-use plastic, recycling, energy efficiency and water use has already been signed, but we must give shape to this agreement,” explained the executive of Asonahores.
“In this new edition of DATE, the whole theme is about sustainability and the commitment we have towards a more sustainable tourism, since there are many stages to be completed,” she added.
Referring to other details of the event, which will be held at the Paradisus Palma Real hotel facilities, Lendor said that this year 2024 has more business appointments scheduled than in previous years. “This year we have 10,000 appointments,” he said.
He pointed out that with DATE they seek to support the different segments and the great diversity offered by the Dominican tourism product so that all suppliers can have an active presence to achieve business meetings, according to El Hoy.
