DR becomes Iberoamerican road safety headquarters

The Ninth General Assembly of the Ibero-American Road Safety Observatory (OISEVI) will take place in the Dominican Republic on October 16, with the participation of transport ministers and authorities from 13 countries that make up this international cooperation organization.

The activity to be held at the Gran Salón of the Sheraton Hotel will be the scenario to address road safety policies in the DR, road accidents in Ibero-America, the Global Road Safety Plan 2030, as well as technical roundtables on the topics of cooperation, roads and vehicles, safe behavior, attention to victims and integration of civil society.

The event, which also includes the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), integrates the country’s transport sector institutions, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Spain’s General Directorate of Traffic, Chile’s National Traffic Safety Commission and the Inter-American Development Bank.

The United Nations Road Safety Fund, the Road Safety Council of Costa Rica (Cosevi), the National Traffic Safety Observatory of Guatemala, the National Road Safety Agency of Colombia, the Traffic Safety Directorate of Nicaragua, as well as others from Honduras, El Salvador, Uruguay, Andorra, Argentina, Paraguay, among others, will also participate.

The Ibero-American Road Safety Observatory (OISEVI) is an instrument of international cooperation made up of the highest road safety authorities of the Ibero-American member countries.

The main objective of the OISEVI is based on the coordination of road safety strategies and initiatives at the regional level based on the generation of timely, objective and reliable information that contributes to reducing road accidents in Ibero-America.

Its actions are aimed at strengthening the technical capacities of each of the member countries, in accordance with the principles of autonomy and democracy of each of them.
