DR outperforms Barbados

Dominican Republic defeated Barbados 5-2 on Monday night, October 16 at the Cibao FC Stadium in the city of Santiago de los Caballeros as part of the fourth round of the CONCACAF Nations League 2023-2024. The match had to be moved to Santiago due to heavy rains in Moca.

Dorny Romero was the star of the show, scoring a hat-trick with a header in the Quisqueyano comeback.

The visitors started winning through Thierry Gale, who scored from the penalty spot in the 10th minute. He would later score his second goal from the same spot in the 66th minute to complete the two Barbadian goals.

On the other hand, Sedofútbol reacted with a goal by Ricky Alba at minute 17′ to equalize the actions; for the attacker, who plays for Fredrikstad FK of Norway, it was his second goal in only his second appearance with the national jersey.

Dorny Romero would give his team the lead at 30′, 48′ and would complete his hat-trick at 79′ -all with headers-, showing once again the powerful aerial game he possesses and ratifying the romance he maintains with the nets by being the top scorer of the Dominican Republic and second in the scoring charts of the CONCACAF Nations League – League B with six goals.

Heinz Mörschel once again shone in the midfield for his defensive and attacking actions and, above all, for his help in the collective performance. The midfielder scored in the 59th minute of the match. This was his second goal in four matches with the national team.

After the victory, Dominican Republic reached nine points that not only allow them to ensure their permanence in the B level of the Nations League, but also keep them with options to continue fighting until the next November window for the coveted promotion to the A League.

In the other match of the group, Nicaragua defeated Montserrat 3-0 and continues to lead the zone with 12 points, DR is second (9), Montserrat is third with (3) and Barbados closes with no points.

The national team will return to action in November when it must visit Montserrat -a match to be played in Barbados- for the fifth date and on the last day it will do the same against Nicaragua in Managua to seek the necessary points that will allow it to achieve the great objective of reaching the A League of the CONCACAF Nations League.
