East, South and North: how the Puntacana Group’s expansion is progressing

Frank Elías Rainieri, CEO of Grupo Puntacana, said that the group of companies is working to expand its accommodation offering in different regions of the country, beyond its growth in the East, where it is pioneering the tourism take-off.

He detailed to arecoa.com the projects currently under development: one in Uvero Alto (W All-Inclusive Punta Cana), another in Miches (Zemí Hotels), one in Punta Cana (Playa Serena Puntacana Resort), in addition to his foray into Puerto Plata (Punta Bergantín), as well as his ambitious Puntarena project in Baní (currently under development).

In the case of Puerto Plata, Frank Elías indicated that the group’s intention “was to honor a debt my family owed to Puerto Plata, the city that saw us arrive, the city where my great-grandmother founded a hotel in 1896, and this would be our second hotel”.

For the Punta Bergantín hotel project, he emphasized that “we have found in the Meliá Group an ideal partner, as they have the necessary knowledge to build a 350-room hotel and create luxury tourism. It is also the union of two families who have known each other for over 40 years and who, at the same time, are committed to the development of Dominican tourism.”

“It’s a spectacular project, and I think it has everything it needs to succeed. Puerto Plata is the ‘Bride’ of the Atlantic, and its people, culture and strength make it a place where tourists enjoy more than just sun and beach. What’s more, it benefits from good air and road connections”, he emphasized.

As for other hotel developments, the executive recalled that the Uvero Alto is a W All-Inclusive Punta Cana, which is being realized under the signing of an agreement between Marriott International, the Puntacana Group and Mac Hotels; a 349-room luxury property targeting the “adults only” segment and scheduled to open in 2025.

Zemi Miches All-Inclusive Resort, Curio Collection by Hilton will be a low-density luxury resort with 502 rooms, 380 of which will have ocean views, and all first-floor rooms will feature a swimming pool. Hilton Hotels & Resorts will manage the property, which is scheduled to open in 2024.

With Playa Serena Puntacana Resort, the hotel group will add 80 rooms to its portfolio on just two floors to offer high-quality experiences with elements of innovation and luxury. Opening is scheduled for 2026.

In the case of Puntarena in Baní, the project is in its second sales phase, opening up the market to new beach apartment units, a turnkey villa project, and new plots for villa construction, as well as villas already built, will be offered for sale.

In addition, new facilities will be integrated, such as a mooring area for boats and a catering area.
