Sabina Fluxá, vice president & CEO of Iberostar Group, told arecoa.com that she is very excited that the first hotel to be developed in Cabo Rojo, Pedernales, belongs to the Spanish chain that she runs with her father Miguel Fluxá.
He stressed that just as they are betting on the development of Pedernales, it has been the firmness the Spanish hotel group has done firmly in the country when more than 30 years ago they made their first investment in the DR with the construction of their first hotel.
“Our first hotel outside Spain was here, so the bet was very clear because of the kindness of the Dominican people, the beauty of the place and the security and support of the country’s administration at all times, which has been key,” she added.
The director acknowledged that the country currently enjoys very positive indicators in terms of tourism, but that at the same time it is a good time to reflect and rethink how to continue promoting the industry.
“At the moment it is clear to us at Grupo Iberostar that tourism must be committed to responsibility, and that goes beyond economic profitability. When we talk about responsible tourism models, we always do so thinking about the balance that must exist between economic profitability to be sustainable in the long term and with a positive impact that we want to leave as a legacy in the community, the environment and the people,” he emphasized.
