The BritchamDR Young Musician of the Caribbean Award successfully completed the summer brass and classical percussion workshops as part of its commitment to music education for the benefit of young talent in the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean.

The BritchamDR YMoCa educational program is a fundamental pillar of the long-term commitment of this musical competition, which promotes cultural and educational exchange between the United Kingdom and the region.

For the occasion, the country welcomed renowned British musicians and professors Dr. Dewi Jones, percussion specialist, who has a brilliant career as a soloist on the Sain Records label and is a percussionist with the National Orchestra of Wales, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Welsh National Opera; as well as renowned Welsh trumpeter and brass specialist Prof. Gwyn Williams, who has performed regularly with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle, Charles Groves and Sir Edward Downes. As a professor, Prof. Williams has been a member of the Royal Academy of Music and has headed the music department at Bangor University in Wales, UK.

The workshop culminated with a magnificent musical performance in the outdoor area of the National Conservatory of Music, the venue for the workshops, where the 25 participants performed a repertoire of pieces, including an adaptation of “Rain Dance” developed by them during the workshop.
