President Luis Abinader affirmed that the Dominican Republic is moving towards a real economic recovery and will be above the average in Latin America and most probably the world average.
The president expressed his optimism that the tourism sector, which is still at a pre-Covid level, will gradually change to return to normal by the end of this year.
He emphasized that the country is developing a greater productive chain in the tourism sector and cited as an example that in Punta Cana, with the hotel sectors, producers’ markets are being created so that the same producers can sell directly to the hotels, avoiding costly intermediaries.
The governor also indicated that priority is being given to the training of tourism sector personnel and together with the educational and technical training institutions, they are working to strengthen education, which never ends and is constant.
“Upon assuming the pro tempore general secretariat of the Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, we also have to think of the whole region and thinking of the whole region, I believe that many countries also need special policies at this time”, he said.
He emphasized that his government is promoting transparency, the fight against corruption and the elimination of impunity.
“I am in politics to help the country, out of a passion for public service”, he said.
His statements were made while participating in an interview conducted by the president of the EFE Agency, Gabriela Cañas, in the program Tribuna EFE Casa de América, on the eve of the XXVII Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government to be held from April 20 to 21 in Soldeu, Principality of Andorra.
