Latin American ambassadors in Egypt recognize DR diplomat

The ambassadors of the countries of the Latin American and Caribbean Group (GRULAC) accredited in Egypt have recognized diplomat Andy Rodríguez Durán, who has concluded his term as Chargé d’Affaires at the Dominican diplomatic headquarters in the African country.

The Ambassador of Guatemala, Luis Raúl Estévez López, Dean of Grulac, presented Mr. Rodríguez Durán with a silver colored tray with the following inscription: “As a token of friendship and gratitude for his work at the head of the Dominican mission in Egypt”, which he carried out from August 2022 to December 2023.

The metallic gift bears the signatures of Ambassadors Alejandro Iván Mendoza Gantes (Panama); Wilmer Omar Barrientos (Venezuela); Ana Milena Muñoz de Gaviria (Colombia); Adriana Rosario Lissidini Dotti (Uruguay); Roberto Gerardo Ebert Grob (Chile); José Luis Guillermo Betancourt Rivera (Peru); Gonzalo Urriolabeitia (Argentina); Denys Toscano (Ecuador); Manuel Javier Rubido Díaz (Cuba); Paulino Franco de Carvalho Neto (Brazil); and Rosaura Leonora Rueda Gutiérrez (Mexico).

The Chargés d’Affaires of Paraguay, Víctor Hugo Pena Bareiro, and Bolivia, Edwin Rivero Quisbert, also participated in the meeting.

Also participating on behalf of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs were Ambassador Hazem Fahmy, Assistant Deputy Minister for the Americas, Ambassador Ashraf Mounir, Assistant Deputy Minister for Latin America, the Counselor of the DR Embassy in Egypt, Teódulo Yasir Mateo Candelier, and other officials from the respective embassies.

Rodriguez Duran has developed a strategic and dynamic program within this delegation in Cairo, taking DR-Egypt relations to the highest level in its 63-year history, becoming the first Dominican head of mission recognized by Mr. Grulac in Cairo.

“I thank the distinguished ambassadors of Grulac for this high distinction. I reiterate the commitment to extol the name of the DR in accordance with the directives of President Luis Abinader and Foreign Minister Roberto A’lvarez to promote a foreign service of excellence, promote diplomatic relations, the positioning of the country, attract foreign investment and commercial and cultural exchanges,” said the career diplomat who has also held relevant positions in Morocco, Belgium and Switzerland.

He also expressed his appreciation to the Egyptian public and private entities for their constant support and facilitation of the institutional processes, particularly to Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Ambassadors Fahmy and Mounir, and the authorities and officials of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“To the Ministries of Trade and Industry, Culture, Tourism, Antiquities, Armed Forces, Cairo Governorate, Universities, Cultural and Research Institutes, as well as to our friends in the Egyptian and DR media and international press agencies for covering and disseminating our activities,” he added.
