“Abejon” Fortuna promises Medina a beating

Dominican Javier “El Abejon” Fortuna, former double world professional boxing champion, promised a “beating” to his compatriot Olvin Medina, whom he will face next Sunday at the Dominican Fiesta Hotel in Santo Domingo.

The native of La Romana, who reigned in two different categories, feather and super feather, announced that after achieving a resounding victory against Medina, he will go after the capture of a third world belt.

“That is the challenge I have set for myself this time,” declared “El Abejon” Fortuna, who has a professional record of 37 victories, 26 of them by knockout, with four defeats.

However, Medina, the rival of the former double world champion, has also set his goal for the fight and intends to “send” Javier Fortuna to retirement.

“He has had a brilliant career, I recognize that, but I will give myself the luxury of sending him to retirement, I will do him that favor, because his qualities are no longer the same,” said Medina.

The fight will be part of an international professional boxing billboard presented by the Dominican promoter Manguita Boxing, presided by César Mercedes and supported by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, Rijo & Asociado and Castro Sport.

The event has been named “Mangüita 105”, in reference to the number of fights organized by the Dominican promoter.

Mercedes declared that the event will mark the beginning of a season of 12 fights to be organized by the company he presides, all of which will be held exclusively at the Dominican Fiesta Hotel in the capital city.

He informed that the entrance fee for the evening is DR$16,000 for tables with exclusive VIP area that includes dinner and refreshments; while the general admission will cost DR$1,000.

In addition to the Fortuna-Medina bout, the Manguita 105 evening includes two other star fights. They are the bout between local Brayan Perez and Venezuelan Reynaldo Gonzalez at light heavyweight (175 pounds); as well as the fight agreed between the rookie sensation Geidan-Sugar-Martinez and the Creole fighter Marcos Acevedo (147 pounds, welterweight).
