Damm and Black, champions M25 and W25 SD tournaments

Americans Martin Damm and Hurricane Tyra Black took top honors at the M25 and W25 Santo Domingo Tournaments, played this week at Parque del Este, where players from 25 countries took part.

Damm, seeded six in the tournament, defeated Frenchman Dan Added, 6-3 6-3, in one hour and 27 minutes on Sunday.

Added falls in two consecutive M25 finals. Last Sunday he lost to Dominican Roberto Cid.

Meanwhile, the women’s final was won by fifth-seeded Tyra Black, who defeated 13th-seeded Jana Kolodynska of Belarus, 6-3 6-3.

In doubles on Saturday, the Dominican Peter Bertran could not get the trophy, along with his partner Jody Maginley, from Antigua and Barbuda, lost 6-4 6-4, in one hour and 15 minutes, their defeaters were the fourth seed, William Bushamuka, from the United States and the Chinese Runhao Hua.

Bertran also fell in the semifinals on Saturday in singles, in a very close match, which ended 7-6 (8), 6-3, in two hours and 7 minutes, in favor of American Martin Damm.

The doubles champions are Alicia Herrero of Spain and Argentina’s Melany Krywoj, who won 6-2 6-4, in one hour and 18 minutes, over Gabriela Knutson of the Czech Republic and Katarina Stresnakova of Slovakia.

Thus ended two weeks of professional tennis at Parque del Este.

The M25 and W25 tournaments, organized by the Dominican Tennis Federation (Fedotenis), distribute a purse of 50 thousand dollars. Both gave 25 points to the winners and 16 to the finalists.

The director of the tournaments was Sergio Tobal, while Omar “Jimi” Cardona was the referee.

Sponsors of the events were the Ministry of Tourism, El Nuevo Diario, Transporte Sheila, Creso, Vilas Tennis Academy, Wilson and Ekatex.
