Dominican Republic achieves agonizing 3-2 win over Bulgaria in Volleyball World League

The National Women’s Volleyball Team sensationally defeated Bulgaria three sets to two (25-22, 16-25, 25-16, 25-14 and 15-11, in group two, in the continuation of the World Volleyball League, organized by the International Volleyball Federation.

This is the first win for the Dominicans in the competition. They have one loss to their credit. The game lasted one hour and 49 minutes. Last year, the Bulgarians defeated the Dominicans 3-0 in 2022.

Tomorrow, Friday, the Dominicans will face the world number 12 ranked Netherlands at 3:210 am.

The offense of the Creoles was led by the stellar Brayelin Martinez with 25 points, followed by Gaila Gonzalez with 19, while Yonkaira Pena contributed 15 and Jineirys Martinez went for 16. Eve Mejia had 13.

For Bulgaria, ranked 16th in the world, Becheva had 17, Yordenava 14 and Marinova 14.

The Queens of the Caribbean dominated in attacking 78 against 52, in blocks with 12-10.

Bulgaria won the first set 25-22 thanks to the attack of Becheva and Yordenava.

In the second set, the Dominicans stopped their rivals and held them to just 16 points, thanks to an excellent defense and a consistent attack. Jineirys Martinez and Eve Mejia performed well.

In the third, the defeated team came back and with a good attack and an excellent defense they went ahead 2-1, where they only allowed 16 points to the Creoles.

In the fourth, the Caribbeans were inspired and allowed 14 points to their rivals to tie the match at two apiece, causing a fifth set. Gaila Gonzalez hit a 103 mph spike.

In the fifth set, the Queens of the Caribbean got the important victory by winning 15-11.
