With an excellent work from the pitching staff of Jeremy Ovalle and Sammy Tavarez, the Dominican Republic gets its second victory in the U23 World Cup, after blanking the Czech Republic 2-0.
With this important victory, every win counts, now Dominican Republic has a record of (2-1), while the Czech Republic closes the night with (1-3).
An unbeatable Ovalle came out to tie the bats of the Czech Republic, working five complete innings, allowing only one single, giving away five tickets and fanning seven, to earn the victory and put his record at (1-0).
He came on in relief to complete the blanking of an overpowering Sammy Tavarez, who struck out the first four players he faced, and without allowing any liberties, earned the save.
Albert Suarez, hit a single to center that brought in the first run for the Dominican Republic in the legs of Luis Santana.
In the fourth base, Christopher Núñez opened with a double and stole the anteroom and with a single by Francis Florentino, comfortably scored the second run for the Quisqueyana squad.
The best for the DR were Albert Suarez with 3-1 and a run, Christopher Núñez hit a triple in three innings and scored one and Francis Florentino 2-1 with a run pushed in.
The loser was Juan Nebenfuhr, in 0.2 IP, a single, and a run allowed.
For the Czech Republic’s losing cause, Vojtech Mensik singled in three innings and struck out one and Martin Cervinka was 2-1 with a walk.
“We are grateful to God for this important victory, the great combined work of Ovalle and Tavarez, the team is already getting into shape, the team looks very different,” said manager Ramón Genao.
He added that every victory is important, that every game counts, and that their goal is to play one game at a time in order to qualify.
The next game of the Quisqueyana squad is this Monday, September 27 at 6:00 pm (Dominican Republic time) and will be against China Taipei.
