DR beats Angola at the Basketball World Cup

Dominican Republic finishes the first phase of the basketball World Cup at the top of Group A and undefeated after beating Angola 75-67, after previously beating the host Philippines and Italy.

At the Philippine Araneta Coliseum in Quezon, the surprising team coached by the Argentine Néstor ‘Ché’ García completed the feat and overcame a tough Angolan team that stood up to the challenge at all times, with a strong defense and the success of Silvio de Sousa, top scorer of the game with 19 points.

On the Dominican side, the top scorer was Andres Feliz, with 17. The Joventut Badalona player took the offensive responsibility, with Eloy Vargas and Karl-Anthony Towns limited by accumulation of personal injuries and who played only 15 minutes, with 8 points and two rebounds.

This first phase of the World Cup is a success for the Dominican Republic, which in its three previous qualifiers to a championship of this category had never finished at the top of its group.
