DR defeats Mexico and wins third match in the Pre-Olympic Games

The Dominican Republic Women’s Volleyball Team obtained its third straight victory by defeating Mexico by a score of three sets to zero (25-17, 27-25 and 25-16), corresponding to Group A of the Pre-Olympic Tournament being held here.

This Thursday 21, at 10:00 pm (Dominican time), the Queens of the Caribbean will face Serbia, current world champion and ranked number two in the world, which is undefeated with a 4-0 record.

In the last League of Nations Tournament, the Caribbean team achieved a resounding five-set victory over Serbia in an action-packed and tense match, with scores that ended 22-25, 25-15, 23-25, 25-19 and 15-10 in favor of “Las Reinas”.

Now, the Caribbean women have a record of three wins and one loss, whose defeat came at the hands of the Czech Republic.

The Dominican offensive attack was led by Gaila Gonzalez with 14 points, followed by center Eve Mejia with seven, Yonkaira Peña with six, Vielka Peralta, five, Bethania de la Cruz five. The game lasted 1:17 minutes.

The coach of the national team managed the rotation of his players very well, even using the junior Ariana Rodriguez in the set pieces in place of the star and captain, Niverka Marte, and he did it very well.

For Mexico, Grecia Castro with 14 points, Aime Topete with 12 and Karen Rivera with nine shined in the lost cause.

Once again, the Creole blocking played havoc with the Mexicans’ offense.

In the second set, the Mexicans offered a brutal resistance and took the score to the limit (27-25). Mexico’s attack was led by Grecia Castro and Karen Rivera with strong spikes.

In the third set, the Dominicans broke their rivals with a great offensive performance by center Lisvel -Eve- Mejia to close the match.
