The Ministry of Sports and Recreation invested 142.74 million pesos in the reconstruction of three athletics tracks and the construction of a new one, as part of the support that the authorities are providing to the youth who practice the different modalities of this discipline.
The information was provided on Tuesday by the Minister of Sports, Francisco Camacho, who pointed out that work is currently underway on the reconstruction of the athletics tracks of the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium and the adjacent warm-up track at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, in the National District, and that of the sports complex of Moca, in the province of Espaillat.
One structure that the Ministry of Sports is building from the ground up is the sports complex of San José de Ocoa, including an athletics track, as well as a softball stadium, explained the official.
Invested money
Camacho quantified the investment being made in the Félix Sánchez Olympic track alone at 65,715,430.75 pesos, while the warm-up track is budgeted at 33,984,308.75 pesos.
The minister indicated that the reconstruction of the athletics track in Moca is stipulated with a budget of 33,786,818.73 pesos; while the construction of the one in Ocoa will entail an investment of 9,744,706.71 pesos.
He explained that the completion in Moca, as well as in San José de Ocoa, is projected for the end of this year, taking into account the unforeseen events that may occur, such as rainy seasons or bad weather that usually affect the progress of the works.
Camacho reiterated that the work on the two tracks of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center is part of the process of repairing all the structures of this complex, as well as the Parque del Este, plus others, which will host the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026.
He recalled that in mid-March, President Luis Abinader gave the “palazo” to start the repair and improvement works of all the facilities that will be used in the assembly of the XXV Games, set by the Organizing Committee to be held from July 24 to August 8 of the aforementioned year.
