Miderec gives workshop for sports federations

The Ministry of Sports, in coordination with the Chamber of Accounts of the Dominican Republic, the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development, the General Directorate of Budget and the Dominican Olympic Committee, held this Friday a workshop on transparency, accountability and preparation of budget execution reports aimed at national sports federations.

The activity, which took place in the James Rodriguez Hall of the portfolio, aims to provide the federated leaders with the technical knowledge that will allow them to improve the elaboration of the reports that they must send to the auditing entities.

The administrative vice-minister of Miderec, Franklin de la Mota, on behalf of Minister Francisco Camacho, informed that the workshop seeks to update and, above all, to make transparent the rendering of accounts of the federations and their accounting departments.

“The Ministry of Sports is your ally. Sometimes we have had conflicts, but what we are trying to do is to update you so that it is easier for you to submit your reports and continue working hand in hand, in brotherhood, and make a difference,” De la Mota explained to the presidents and other delegates of 38 of the 43 federations that make up the national sports movement.

The Precision Shooting, Badminton, Modern Pentathlon, Windsurfing and Fencing federations did not participate in the workshop because they were suspended last August by the Dominican Olympic Committee.

The workshop was organized by José Luis Suero, liaison between Miderec and the national sports federations, and given by Rafaela Montero, from the Analytical Department of the Budget Directorate, and Andrea Montero, from the Ministry of Finance.

Both, through slides and explanations, explained to the federations the most updated tools to strengthen the level of transparency in the use of public resources.

In this sense, they were provided with a digital tutorial prepared by the Chamber of Accounts to register month after month the income and expenses incurred for the execution of their activities, as well as to attach all the documentation supporting the income and expenses reported in the platform, which will allow them to have a better control of the use of the resources.

On his side, the president of the Olympic Committee, Garibaldy Bautista, welcomed the initiative of Miderec and said that this workshop will allow the federations to also win the gold medal in this important area.

“We have to show the Dominican community that this sector, like all sectors of Dominican society, has virtues and defects, and we may have one or another who is not complying to the letter, but in the movement there are serious and honorable people, people who are dedicated to working with athletes and as we manage public resources, we must be accountable and render them well,” Bautista emphasized.

He said that the federations have to be strengthened, they have to be updated to present their liquidations as it should be, as established in the accounting rules.

The activity was also attended by José Paulino, director of the Support Program for High Performance Athletes, New Values and Immortals (PARNI), who was the master of ceremony, and Neftalí Santana, legal advisor of Miderec, among others.
