Abinader issues decree to strengthen Tourism Cabinet

President Luis Abinader ordered the expansion of the Tourism Cabinet, an entity whose objective is to design and propose public policies related to the tourism sector, in order to stimulate its development and guarantee its strengthening.

The measure was ordered through decree number 46-22, in which the entity is presided over by the President.

It is also integrated by the ministers of Tourism, who acts as its general coordinator, Public Health, Defense and Foreign Affairs. The Tourism Cabinet was created by decree 498-20 and among its attributions are to coordinate the design of the public policies of the tourism sector, to articulate with the member institutions the plans and projects related to the tourism sector.

It also establishes the actions to be executed by its members derived from the plans and projects agreed upon and which are inherent to their functions and attributions, establishes the strategy and communication plan to be executed as a consequence of any action that has an impact on the tourism sector, promotes the participation of the private sector linked to the area for the elaboration, coordination and execution of public policies and ensures the correct execution of the policies, programs and plans duly approved.

The Cabinet will be attached to the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), and from now on it will also include the general commander of the Dominican Republic Navy, the general director of the National Police, the president of the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), the director of the Center for Export and Investment of the Dominican Republic, the directors of Customs, of the Specialized Airport Security Corps (CESAC), and the president of the Board of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, as well as the president of the Board of Tourism of the Dominican Republic.

Also the president of the Civil Aviation Board (JAC), the directors of the Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC), of the Airport Department, of the Tourism Police, whose members will exercise their functions in an honorary capacity.

The Tourism Cabinet will meet monthly on an ordinary basis in order to achieve the goals set for the development of the tourism sector, upon the summons of its general coordinator, the Minister of Tourism, David Collado. However, it may hold extraordinary meetings as many times as deemed necessary.
