Collado: tourist record confirms confidence of the DR

The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, highlighted the records achieved by the country in the arrival of tourists, which continues steadily, and announced the installation of a School of Higher Tourism, to strengthen training, and a Tourist Service Center in the eastern region of the country.

At the 24th edition of the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE), Collado highlighted that 3,225,000 visitors in the first three months of the year have arrived in the RD, and more than 800,000 in the month of March, by air.

“That is a superb figure, to have the best start of the year in the history of the country, and with projections that are constantly growing,” said the official, who held important business meetings.

Also during the event, the RD was recognized by Tripadvisor in the Travelers’ Choice®️ Awards Best of the Best for 2024, as the number 4 honeymoon destination in the world and number one most popular in the Caribbean, these awards were received by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado.

Visitors in 3 months

The official affirmed that, “in three months running the country has surpassed the figure of 800,000 foreigners via air and more than 250,000 via cruises, to total one million visitors”.

“What we have are signs of growth, confidence, new investments, new hotel chains that believe in what we are doing in the RD,” he said.

Crecimiento Turístico ColladoThe official announced that in an alliance with the private sector and international academies he will work on the installation of a tourism training institute in the Eastern region, which is where most of the tourists who visit the RD arrive.

“We are going to make an investment with the savings we have in the Mitur to create a professional tourism school, in order to have a better service and tourism to be sustainable over time,” Collado stressed.

Agreement with education

He added that this initiative will be accompanied by an agreement with Education and the vision of placing the subject of tourism in schools, due to the importance and leadership achieved by the industry in the country.

He also announced that the largest Tourist Service Center in the region will be built on 1,000 square meters of land, where all the State institutions will be located to provide service to travelers whenever they require it.

David Llibre, president of Asonahores, highlighted the growth that DATE exhibits every year, which he defined as the most important event of the tourism industry.

He said that in this new version, more than 800 companies are participating and 8,000 business appointments are scheduled.

He emphasized that the Dominican tourism product has been evolving and developing, which is why it has become a worldwide reference.

He expressed that this edition combines the great variety that integrates the tourism industry such as hotel investment, real estate, cruises and different experiences, from adventure, health, shopping, among others.
