Dominican Republic: Collado calls for expanding tourism throughout the country

The Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, David Collado, in the framework of the fourth version of Tourism in Every Corner, stressed the importance of expanding tourism throughout the country and that it should not only stay in hotels, but that tourists should have contact with the communities to learn about their cultural, gastronomic, handicraft and ecotourism offerings.

Collado pointed out that “tourism has to permeate the communities to be sustainable over time”. With this he seeks to strengthen tourism development in the country to sustain jobs and contribute to the economy of each of the regions.

He also invited clusters, institutions and the community in general to promote their regional tourist destinations. “Tourism in Every Corner” supports the promotion of local tourism, with a sustainable and inclusive approach.

The campaign also aims to reach Dominican tourists so that they get to know their country, learn about its domestic products and the development of the communities, as reported by Acento.

As REPORTUR.mx reported, the growth of tourist arrivals to the Dominican Republic reached a record seven million during 2022, representing 58% of its population. This increase was due to several reasons, among them, the rapid recovery of the covid-19 and the open skies agreements (Dominican Republic: the causes of the tourist record in 2022).

In addition to this, the arrival of low-cost airlines marked an important advance, added to the policies of support to the sector by the administration of President Luis Abinader, in terms of attracting foreign investment, as reported by Noticiasassin.
