Inverotel leaders award Collado for achieving the 10 million tourists milestone

The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, received an award from the main leaders of the Spanish hotel chains grouped in the Caribbean Tourism Investors Association (Inverotel), for having achieved the DR’s record of 10 million foreign tourists in 2023 for the first time in its history.

The Association, presided by Encarna Piñero, CEO of Grupo Piñero, presented the distinction to Collado in Madrid within the framework of Fitur 2024, which is being held until Friday, where the DR has a very large stand with the presence of Grupo Puntacana, Asonahores, Banco Popular Dominicano, Banreservas and Aderes, among other Dominican tourism companies and entities.

Spanish hotel investment is the most relevant in the DR. It has more than 45,000 rooms distributed in 24 chains with 98 hotels. From 2010 to 2021, 22% of total investments in tourism have come from Spanish groups. In addition, Spain has remained for years within the top ten countries of origin of tourists to the DR and today represents about 3% of total arrivals of non-residents.

It is recalled that last Tuesday, December 26, the DR reached the record of 10 million tourists, a symbolic distinction that fell on the first passenger to get off an American Airlines flight from Miami, which landed at the Punta Cana airport around noon.

The recipient was a young woman named Ariana Guilak, who was received by Minister Collado himself and by tourism entrepreneur and founder of the Puntacana Group, Frank Rainieri.
