Tourism forecasts 11 million visitors throughout the year

The Ministry of Tourism surprised its collaborators and guests yesterday with the “Let’s talk about results” podcast, where it presented live the statistics of the tourist flow in the RD, leaving behind the daily routine of announcing the results of the arrival of visitors with large screens and in a hotel room.

This time it was held at the headquarters of the Ministry, which shares the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources, where between surprise and amazement they observed the set up of an entire radio studio, where it was informed that the RD is on its way to attract 11 million tourists.

The news was propitious for those present to let out their applause again and again, while they watched from the balconies of the building.

The minister was accompanied by the technical vice-minister, Jacqueline Mora; the president of the Association of Hotels and Tourism of the RD (Asonahores), David Llibre; the tourism businessman Andrés Marranzini; who reiterated that the arrival of tourists represents well-being for a chain of actors linked to the sector.

The Association of Bars and Restaurants also let it be known that they are satisfied with the achievements reached in the sector.

11 Millones De VisitantesIn the first two months of this year the country received 2,127,966 visitors in the first two months of this year. According to David Collado, Minister of Tourism, both the public and private sectors have as a goal to reach 11 million tourists, for which they will continue to show at international level the attractions of the country through the international trade shows carried out by the promotion team of the country.

The official explained that by the end of February, 1,057,217 visitors entered the country, of which 755,832 arrived by air and 301,384 by cruise ships.

Of these, only 257,171 were unique cruise passengers.

He reported that by air alone the country received 755,832 tourists in the month of February, which represents a growth of 14 percent more than in the same month last year, 33 % in relation to 2022 and 25 % with respect to 2019.

Minister Collado said that this remarkable growth was also registered by sea with the visits in February of 301,384 cruise passengers, with the port of Taino Bay receiving the largest number with 117,876 passengers, Amber Cove 90,089, followed by La Romana 69,136, Catalina Island 10,153 and Santo Domingo 2,016.

Foreign visitors

Of the total number of visitors to the RD last month, 44% came from the United States, 25% from Canada, 3% from France, 3% from Argentina and 3% from Colombia.

These tourists entered the country for a period of eight days, mostly through the airports of Punta Cana and Las Americas with 46% and 29%, respectively.

Meanwhile, the arrival of tourists from the European continent continues to lag behind to the point of presenting a drop of 11 percent compared to February last year.

Similar happens with La Romana airport, which is only capturing 1.2 % of tourists, in fact that airport presents a drop in arrivals of 64 % in relation to arrivals in 2019.

Haiti crisis does not affect the sector

News. Minister David Collado and trade unionist David Llibre affirmed that tourist arrivals have not been impacted by the crisis in the neighboring country of Hatí.

“As of today, the unfortunate situation that our neighbor Haiti is experiencing has not affected the RD in any way. We do not have any drop in reservations, we have no cancellations and, thank God, tourism continues to grow,” Collado emphasized.

While Llibre explained that the sector, like all sectors of the country, are concerned about the crisis affecting that country, but so far the reservations of arrivals have not been affected.

Both spoke to the press separately, but agreed that the sector has not been impacted by the crisis.
