European Investment Bank interested in financing climate resilience projects in the DR and the Caribbean

Banco de Reservas and Banco Popular Dominicano will be sponsors of the 2022 International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR), to be held from January 19 to 23 in Madrid, Spain, with the Dominican Republic as a partner country.

FITUR is considered one of the most important tourism fairs in the world, due to its impact on the Ibero-American tourist receiving and sending markets, and will be held from January 19 to 23, 2022 with the slogan “We embrace the world, we are tourism”.

This participation fills the Dominican Republic with prominence and strategic visibility for the promotion of the country’s major tourist attractions to the world.

Samuel Pereyra, general manager of Banco de Reservas, and René Grullón, senior vice president of National and International Business at Banco Popular, agreed in highlighting the importance for the Dominican Republic to be a partner country of FITUR 2022 and the support provided by both institutions for the growth of tourism.

The bank executives highlighted the tourism recovery the country is experiencing and that, according to figures presented by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, the sector achieved record growth in October, with the “historic” arrival of 443,018 non-resident visitors, when interviewed by journalist Moisés González.

Pereyra referred to the support given by the government of President Luis Abinader since the beginning of his administration to the tourism industry with the implementation of measures aimed at relaunching the sector.

“As I have always said, one of the fundamental pillars of our country is tourism, that was one of the most affected sectors during this pandemic, and we, since President Luis Abinader, began this government administration, is one of the sectors that Banco de Reservas has supported the most, proof of that are the new tourism projects that we are now financing,” said Pereyra.

The administrator of Banreservas said that the support of Banco de Reservas to the next International Tourism Fair will be fundamental.

Manuel Grullón, senior vice president of National and International Business of Banco Popular, said that the fact that the Dominican Republic will host the International Tourism Fair (FITUR 2022) is a clear demonstration of “the importance that we have and the interest that all of Spain and Spanish businessmen have in continuing to support this country”.
