Abinader leads opening of tourist dock in Río San Juan

President Luis Abinader inaugurated the fishing and tourist pier of Río San Juan, which marks the beginning of a safer, more active and productive fishing to offer new opportunities for local tourism.

During the ceremony, President Abinader instructed the director of the Dominican Port Authority (Apordom), Jean Luis Rodríguez, to work with the municipal mayor’s office to design a viewpoint in the area where the pier was built, which will serve as a healthy recreation and leisure area for the families of the area.

The governor said he did not understand how a way of life such as fishing could be maintained in a community for so long without an action to respond to this demand. “This pier was a commitment, but truly a need of the community, with this we are here bringing justice to this municipality of Río San Juan and especially to its Muelle Rio San Juanfishermen.”

The head of state highlighted some of the works that the government has executed and others in the pipeline in this municipality, such as the reconstruction of the hospital, the intervention of the Gri-Gri Lagoon and the aqueduct.

The Río San Juan Tourist and Fishing Pier, a work awaited for more than 50 years by the municipality’s residents, will have the capacity to accommodate up to 200 boats simultaneously, with 70 berthing areas classified for different uses.

This project has been made possible thanks to more than DR$ 144 million pesos. The project will positively transform the fishing sector of Rio San Juan and the region, who had to travel hundreds of kilometers to unload their products in Puerto Plata and Luperón.
