CABEI approves US$630,000 donation for railroad

The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), through the Korea-CABEI Single Donor Trust Fund (KTF), approved US$630,000 in non-reimbursable technical cooperation for the feasibility studies of a railroad line that would connect the cities of Santiago de los Caballeros and Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.

These studies will evaluate the integration and connectivity of the Dominican Republic’s two most populated and productive cities, which represent a third of the country’s total population, as well as their linkage with the Port of Haina.

It will also include a market analysis of the demand for freight and passenger rail service, technological recommendations and design solutions, economic and financial analysis, as well as regulatory and governance structure proposals.

Cooperation
CABEI Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi, stated: “this technical cooperation will support the regional initiative promoted by the Bank to develop a safe and efficient rail transportation network for cargo and passengers, which will contribute to the Dominican Government’s strategic objectives of promoting mobility options, diversifying exports, fostering economies of scale, and boosting economic growth and national competitiveness, which translates into quality of life for its inhabitants”.
