David Llibre, president of the Association of Hotels and Tourism of the DR (Asonahores), indicated that “the tourism sector is strengthened by the flow of diversification of investments, the strengthening of the offer of traditional tourist areas, and the development of innovative projects in new tourist areas such as Miches, Pedernales and Punta Bergantín”.
He pointed out that Spain is one of the main countries of origin of tourists to the DR. “The DR is not only consolidating its position as a sun and beach destination par excellence, but also in the diversification of health tourism, sports tourism, adventure tourism, cultural tourism, always taking care of the highest standards,” he said.
He highlighted the importance of the International Tourism Fair (Fitur 2024), which is a platform to promote the creation of new tourism projects and predicted that this year will start with both local and foreign investments.
“The support of travel agencies and tour operators has been decisive in maintaining the DR as the first option in the Caribbean, which is strengthened with proposals aimed at the new trends of the outbound markets,” he said.
He specified that “they will continue to bet on a clear and sustainable structure to compete with other countries in the development of new rooms, with novel complementary offers and maintaining the current updated tourism proposal to continue attracting visitors to our country.”
